Assessment Criteria

1) Criteria for the Best Paper Award 

The Best Paper Award will be given to the presenter of the best paper at the NERD conference 2022.

Selection Criteria:

For a paper to be considered for this award, the following criteria must be met:

  • Papers will be reviewed and judged based on the criteria described below. Each paper will be given a score of 0-10 (where 0 is the lowest and 10 is the highest score) for each criterion.
  • The score allocated to each paper by each reviewer shall be multiplied by the weighting and then added. The highest scoring paper shall be recommended for the Best Paper Award. Where two or more papers receive the same total score, the paper which has the highest score in the highest weighted criteria shall be recommended for the award. If the papers are still tied, the highest score in the second highest weighted criteria will be recommended for the award, and so on until a winner is determined.

Academic Criteria:

  • Originality (weighting 45%)

Originality of contribution to the literature with an emphasis on the paper’s innovativeness in one or more of: (i) theoretical development, (ii) empirical results or (iii) policy development/impacts.

  • Quality of Argument (weighting 40%)

The quality of argument must incorporate: (i) critical analysis of concepts, theories, and findings, and (ii) consistency and coherency of presentation.

  • Writing Style (weighting 15%)

Quality of writing style in terms of accuracy, clarity, readability, and organisation of the paper.

 

2) Criteria for the Best Virtual Poster Research Award

A Best Virtual Poster Research Award will be given to a presenter with the best virtual poster.

Selection Criteria:

For the poster to be considered for the award, the following selection criteria must be met:

  • presenters must provide a single PowerPoint slide with their posters. 
  • Posters will be reviewed and judged based on the criteria described below. Each poster will be given a score of 0-10 (where 0 is the lowest and 10 is the highest score) for each criterion.

Marking Criteria

  • Students will be judged based on the poster content (25%), research complexity (35%), poster appearance/clarity (20%), and poster organisation (20%).
