Selgin Al obtained her degree in Physics in 2008 from Balikesir University (Turkey). She received a Turkish government scholarship to do her postgraduate study in the UK. She did her MSc at the University of Leeds in 2011. She joined the University of Newcastle in 2011 as a PhD student under the supervision of Professor Ian Metcalfe and Dr Danai Poulidi. Her research focuses on mixed proton and oxygen ion conductors which could be used to operate a solid oxide fuel cell with simultaneous water permeation.
