After an initial training in Immunology and a specialisation in Cellular Engineering, Francois Lassailly has worked for 7 years in different academic laboratories and privates structures aiming at improving ex-vivo manipulation of haematopoietic stem cells, immune or mesenchymal cells. During this period he used transplantation approaches to test the functionality of primary cells from murine or human origin in different mouse models. He then had the opportunity to manage the Tumour Biobank of the Paoli Calmettes Institute, the regional cancer centre of Marseille. In 2006, he started a PhD in the laboratory of Dr Dominique Bonnet at Cancer Research UK, London Research Institute, to study in vivo the interactions between haematopoietic stem cells, leukaemia stem cells and the bone marrow microenvironment, called the niche. During his PhD he was strongly involved in the selection and implantation of 3 in vivo imaging technologies (whole body fluorescence, bioluminescence and intravital microscopy using confocal and multi photon imaging), which he exploited for the needs of his own projects but also for other groups across the institute. In 2010 he was hired to develop the In vivo Imaging capabilities of the Institute and create a proper core facility.
