Artist Lucy May Schofield to start a 5 week artist-in-residency in Japan
During early Summer 2019, artist Lucy May Schofield will be returning to the Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory artist-in-residence programme located outside the Fujikawaguchiko town, close to one of the five lakes of Mount Fuji. This residency will bring together seven artists from the USA, Ireland, Japan, Canada and the UK to focus deeply on the more nuanced techniques involved in Japanese water-based woodblock printmaking. This unique 5-week programme of study has been designed by the participating artists, some of whom are returning to MI-LAB for the third time to immerse themselves fully in the art of woodblock printing. Joined by master carvers, printers and contemporary artists, the work created during this residency will culminate in a group exhibition at CfSHE Gallery, 3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo from July 7th - 13th 2019.
