Professor John Moriarty

John is Professor of Mathematics at Queen Mary University of London and Strategic Lead for Energy at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence.
He is a Research Fellow of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, applying methods from probability theory to problems in decarbonised power systems, including the study of storage from both economic and operational perspectives. He recently organised The Mathematics of Energy Systems, an international visitor research programme at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge, and has worked with National Grid, IBM and Electricity North West on knowledge transfer projects.
John is a co-founder of Future Decisions, a startup using machine learning to improve air quality in buildings, and enjoys public engagement, having contributed several times to BBC television, radio and website.
