About
The Women in Mathematics Day is an annual event organised by the London Mathematical Society for women in mathematics to meet together for a day of talks and discussion groups. The talks are given by women mathematicians from a range of disciplines and who are at various stages in their careers.
The event is aimed in particular at postgraduates, final year undergraduates and those at an early stage in their career. The Women in Mathematics Day provides an opportunity to meet and talk with women who are active and successful in mathematics. Participants from previous meetings have found this opportunity useful and beneficial.
While women are especially encouraged to attend this day, men are certainly not excluded from these events.
The programme usually starts with talks given by eminent women mathematicians from various positions and at different career stages. Over lunch, there is a poster session and to encourage high quality submissions, the Society offers a prize for the best Women in Mathematics Day poster. In the afternoon, postgraduate students usually give talks and these are followed by discussion groups.
The LMS Women in Mathematics Day is free for students and there is usually a nominal charge for all other participants. Limited funds are also available to help with the travel costs of students attending the event.
This year, Newcastle University has the honour to partner with The Women In the Security Domain and/Or Mathematic (WISDOM) group of Royal Holloway, University of London to host this event at Newcastle University.
